Basic knowledge of composite post insulators

The composite pillar insulator is composed of mandrel, umbrella skirt sheath (bonding layer) and connecting fittings. The mandrel and metal end have strong tensile and bending strength, and the umbrella tray made of organic materials has good hydrophobicity and anti-fouling flashover ability. It is suitable for high voltage transmission lines, especially for dirty areas, and can effectively prevent pollution flashover accidents. When the line voltage and damage load are the same, the weight of the rod composite pillar insulator is only 1/6 to 1/10 of the suspension insulator string, and it is easier to install and replace.

 

These advantages make it a replacement product for porcelain insulators widely used at present. Rod composite post insulators have high specific strength (tensile strength to mass ratio) and excellent anti-fouling flashover characteristics, but there is the possibility of in-interface breakdown and mand-rod brittle break, and the service life of organic composite materials and long-term reliability of the end connection area have not been agreed.


The mandrel is a fiberglass bar formed by resin bonding millions of glass fibers parallel to the axis. The tensile strength is higher than 600MPa, 3 to 5 times that of high-strength porcelain, equivalent to high-quality carbon steel, with good flexural and fatigue resistance, withstand the mechanical load of synthetic insulators, and is the main part of the internal insulation. Reinforcement fibers and resins with small creep are selected. Ensure that the mandrel has good mechanical and electrical properties.
